Meet Our Team
Dr. Coleen Stice
Originally from Montana, Dr. Stice studied medicine in Bozeman, Salt Lake City and has been practicing in Omaha, Nebraska since 1985. She works in private plastic surgery and is CEO of International Medical Exchange. For almost a decade, Dr. Stice has been visiting Kenya and has performed reconstructive surgeries on burn victims, which led her to found Salama Stove in 2015.
Dr. Raymond Schulte
Dr. Schulte was raised on a Nebraska farm and has been in practice for more than 40 years, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. He is known for having a sense of adventure and a real ‘can do’ attitude; in fact, it was his idea to add the boiler to the chimney to provide hot water to the household!
Mr. Muoki first started making improved stoves at age 10 to make an extra buck and ‘show his friends that he was cool.’ He is now one of the leading stove experts in Kenya and has worked with Prof. Kithinji since 2009 on improved stove designs and indoor air quality improvement.
Mr. Thoithi organizes all transport and logistics for the Salama Stove Project.
Dr. Jacob Kithinji
Dr. Jacob Kithinji is a Professor at University of Nairobi and has over 20 years experience researching improved stove designs and indoor air quality.
"I been fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit households and work with local teams in various locations to evaluate and disseminate improved stoves in rural environments. By working with these partners and households I have gained a unique perspective which has helped build these bonds. What I want to emphasize is that working together is the only way."
